I started as a VA pivoted a few times until I found my lane with systems set up. I transitioned exclusively to doing systems setups a few years ago. Now I am transitioning more into a one-to-many format, consulting, and one-on-one support.
I was dealing with extreme burnout. I felt like I developed health issues. I couldn’t sleep at night, and not that my work was keeping me up, but just the constant, just stress of it all and the brain fog.
I can probably be productive enough to get 2-3 times as much done in a day than the average person. But as a result of that, of my go-getter-like focus, my mind can be moving a million miles an hour, and the rest of me can’t catch up, or the rest of me gets tired before my brain does. And so I was just exhausted.
It felt like there was always something; there was always something that I needed to give my attention to. And I was the only one doing the doing. I had an assistant, but I felt like I wasn’t utilizing my VA as much.
I had a problem trusting people to do how I do it or do it to the level that I expected things to be done and couldn’t replicate myself.
Then I thought, “Oh, that means I’m going to have to have an agency. And I’m going to have to have all this solid, but I really don’t want an agency. That’s not what I envisioned for myself. “
I’m glad that this program allowed me to transition out of that, out of that mindset of, “I have to be the one doing all the doing because I like how I do it. So I’m just going to do it. “
I can’t rely on that anymore if I want a better lifestyle. It’s not about more money for me or getting things off my plate. For me, it’s about having people in place, so I don’t have to sit in this seat at my desk every day, all day for the rest of my life.
Grindaholics Anonymous helped me to really uncover what my vision was for my business. I was just so much in the thought process of doing and being that I couldn’t foresee the future of my business. I knew what I didn’t want, but I couldn’t figure out what I did want. I couldn’t envision what my life would be five years from now. Whenever someone asked me that question, I was like, “Well, I really don’t know. “I had so much in my brain going a million miles an hour that I couldn’t slow down enough to see my way through what I want to build that.
So the program helped me to establish and uncover my vision for my business and start to put the building blocks in place. Once I could clearly define the vision, I immediately started reaping the benefits of outsourcing things I don’t need to be busy doing.
Grindaholics also helped me establish and understand the value of understanding the culture of your business and what things are for what meetings are for how not just to hire a person, but uncover their strengths. I enjoy doing these exercises with my team members and empowering them and that everything doesn’t have to be like this boxy HR kind of thing; hiring doesn’t have to be boring.
Some of the program tools that helped me the most were the vision module, the job description lessons, the interview examples, and my favorite was uncovering the tasks I do with the CEO task analysis. That helped me realize how much I was doing and not delegating to anyone.
My assistant was able to run one of my coworking calls in my absence, and it was mind-blowing!
I really like that I have been able to not only close my laptop at 5, but this program has allowed me to structure my offers in a way that serves me well. I can put the people in place so closing my laptop doesn’t feel like, “Yeah, my systems are working for me, but I’m still going to have to come back to a big mountain of work because I’m still the one having to do it all. “
I wanted to close my business before- I was crying and stressed. Now I see it can be precisely what I want it to be.
I feel very optimistic and happy about what my business can be. My husband lost his job in covid, and I could hold down the fort for my family. It’s tough when you’re the breadwinner and have to do all of the work, but I’m so happy and confident in the direction I’m going in now.
