At first, working on my business, I felt like a freelancer and very alone. I had a “do whatever it takes mentality,” and I didn’t have too many boundaries with work. I was pulling a lot of all-nighters, and they were affecting me, my relationships, and my health.
Before Grindaholics Anonymous, I was afraid to hire anyone in my company because I needed to figure out how to manage leader delegate.
I was hiring contractors back to back for specific projects, and the amount of time spent on them was equivalent to a full-time employee.
I was just tired.
For me, the hiring process is laid out so well that it changed how I’ll hire forever. With all the templates to use, like the job description and the interview questions, how they were structured helped me communicate about the role up front, and I was able to get high-quality candidates and get to know them so well early in the process.
The coaching calls were also huge for me because I could learn from Tatiana, network with others, and see how they worked through similar issues.
The combination of those two things was the game changer on the ground level.
On a high level, big picture thinking, the main thing was establishing the company culture. Slowing down enough to identify our company values and what we stand for. Creating my company values was a breakthrough because I realized how badly my company needed guiding principles.
Since joining, I have standards and boundaries now. I have people depending on me and the company to succeed. So now, instead of all-nighters, I wake up earlier to get things done, and we have team meetings and check-ins. This stability caused me to be a more accountable leader.
This has been a positive reflection on my clients too. I have processes in place to handle my team with consistency and clarity; I’m gonna do the same thing for my clients.
With Grindaholics Anonymous, I learned how to create that company culture; now that I have this company culture and values, I don’t do things outside those values.
I know what my days will look like, which is huge. We use Asana now to organize our projects better and stay on track with each client.
We’ve even been able to expand our footprint outside of Charlotte.
I’m working 10% fewer hours because I’m no longer doing the tasks, but I spend more time now on leadership and intentional time with clients. I can travel to work with clients, and we’ve even expanded our footprint outside of Charlotte.
I’m just glad that I have more structures in place.
