After Grindaholics Anonymous – Now, Team of 6- 5 dietitians, 1 admin.
Before Grindaholics Anonymous, I felt very overwhelmed. I didn’t really know what to start with as far as the operations side. Right before I joined the program, I was in the process of onboarding two new dieticians.
My team was growing, and I didn’t know what to do to make them feel like it was cohesive. I didn’t know how to make sure anyone wasn’t gonna fall through the cracks because I couldn’t manage a bigger team. I knew how to manage myself but didn’t know how to scale that to apply to others.
The main reason I joined Grindaholics was I’m really skilled at reaction hiring. I love to just hire on a whim, and the other dieticians I hired all fell into my lap. I knew I needed to hire someone, and I needed someone that wasn’t gonna be like, “Oh sure. I’ll pick up a couple of hours.” I needed someone that was gonna grow with me. And that was my biggest thing; I needed a process to hire the right people and feel like I was doing it justice.
After joining the program, I now have direction. I felt like coaching calls were great because I tend to overthink things and get in my head. So that was helpful. It was nice having a space where I could talk through things, whatever I was working on.
I think curriculum-wise, the biggest part is the middle, the bulk of the hiring process. Hiring was where I was struggling, but I benefited from much of the initial groundwork. The org chart and all those things that are part of it that I never, I didn’t even know existed. If I want to continue to grow, I need to know what makes sense in each role and get clear on what tasks are assigned to them.
Once I got to the hiring process, everything was very helpful, and I feel like that has been a big part of where I’m now. Being able to bring the right people through the hiring process and feel like I knew what I was doing is amazing. Before, I was overwhelmed creating the application, figuring out where to post, and what to do with it. The whole thing was a lot, and now I better understand how to make that process smoother.
Now that I have a stronger team, I want to start working on implementing the KPIs. Right now, I’m not having to take on every single patient. Before, if any clients had anything complex, I had to take them. Now I’ve been able to hire a new dietician to help take some work off my plate.
Being able to grow my team and feel like I am not doing it alone has been so helpful. As an entrepreneur, you are doing it by yourself. You make those big decisions, and building trust is always hard for me, trusting someone else to do my job.
In theory, I could take all these patients and do a great job, but I’m learning how to trust someone else to do it and just let them succeed or fail. It doesn’t matter; there will be mistakes, but I feel that’s been my biggest growth over the last bit. Being able to say,
“I’ve gotta let some things go. If I want what I want, not to work a billion hours a week, then I have to let some things go, and that’s taking fewer clients or letting some other people in to help.”
After going through the program, I feel pretty good about the hiring process. I created a pretty stellar onboarding presentation I like. When I presented it to my team members, it was easy for me to bring someone else on and give them an overview of my business culture and what I anticipate for them. From the application side through onboarding, I feel like it’s pretty good.
